Mira’s Yoga Story

Mira (RYT) attended her first Iyengar yoga class with her father in Seattle when she was 15 years old. She is grateful to her dad for introducing her to the teachings of yoga. In addition to being a registered yoga teacher (RYT-500, RYT-200, Yoga Alliance), Mira holds an MFA in Dance and Creative Practice (Saint Mary’s College) and a PhD and MA in Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture (UC Berkeley). She cares deeply about teaching and learning and enjoys mentoring students of all ages and levels to develop and deepen their practice in ways that suit their particular goals and aspirations.

Since 1995, Mira has studied Iyengar yoga extensively at The Yoga Room in Berkeley (with Donald Moyer, Mary Lou Weprin, and Gay White), and at Nest Yoga in Oakland (with Richard Rosen and others).

Rooted in classical yoga and informed by modern anatomy, Mira’s classes offer playful and creative variations to support students working at different levels to safely go deeper. Her anatomical cuing and thoughtful sequencing/use of props offer individuals myriad ways to broaden their yoga practice. Using a breath-based approach to movement, Mira’s classes help students build strength and mobility, deepen their inner body sensing, and cultivate joy and wellbeing. Certified by The Driven Yogi in creating safe and inclusive yoga spaces across race, gender, and ability, Mira’s classes are truly for everybody.

Professor Emerita of English at Sonoma State University, Mira taught at the college level for 17 years, and taught ballet to adults at Danspace, in Oakland. She currently offers yoga and dance classes and private instruction in Monterey County and consults on literacy education projects statewide and nationally.
